CoffeeMuseum: the beginning, by the designer

“After this, there is no turning back”

And there is not. Here we are, the damn four visionaries, prepared to capture unique images, experiences and feelings. Surely, looking to catch a very emotive story about Sao Tome and Principe’s coffee. We arrived in an overcrowded airplane, with no much space to stretch and sleep. The first breath after landing was hot and wet in an early morning. Taking our stamped passports was a long process which made we lose some time.

Thinking that we had our entire luggage, we left the airport in a van driven by a nice local guy who left us at the wrong hotel. Moving from Pestana to Miramar we realized that we left behind one bag at the airport’s bag belt. After a 45 min sleep in the hotel room I explored the space around, went out for a walk and discover a beautiful beach to take a dip in the ocean. Yet, there was time for a lunch session at our contact’s house to meet the person that spent the last weeks exchanging emails back and forth with us, to prepare our arrival and contacting local entities. This person worked for the Portuguese cooperation for defense in São Tomé, hand to hand with Embassy of Portugal and São Tomé government. The lunch was carefully prepared by his housekeeper, who prepared a very tasty soup and an awesome typical chicken followed by a cold desert with coconut. During the afternoon we had the opportunity to visit the city and have our first driving experience in a very chaotic city with no traffic rules. Have you ever thought about riding a truck in Africa? Laugh out loud. Laugh again. These guys are completely crazy.

At the end of each day – we spend some time near the hotel’s swimming pool to chat – sharing our ideas about our expectations, dreams and visions. About what this project could be in the future, and enjoy the fact of having all the team together in this awesome island, lost in the ocean, for an immersive experience.

This was the first day of capturing coffee stories of a (un)forgotten coffee lands.

www.coffeemuseum.com is the result of this experience and the beginning of another one. Get in. Sit down and watch. Sign up for more coffee.
